From 2–5 March 2026, representatives of VIOBA Social Enterprise participated in the Strategic Planning Meeting of the Alliance on Longevity in Asia-Pacific (ALAP) for the 2026–2028 period, held in Bangkok, Thailand.
The meeting brought together more than 30 participants from 12 ALAP member organizations representing 12 countries across the Asia–Pacific region, along with representatives/resource persons from regional and academic institutions, including the United Nations Population Fund Asia and the Pacific Regional office (UNFPA), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the ASEAN Centre for Active Ageing and Innovation (ACAI), and Chulalongkorn University, one of Thailand’s leading universities. The meeting provided a platform to discuss the future direction of the network in the context of rapid population ageing across the region. During the meeting, representatives from regional organisations and academic institutions also shared their expectations for ALAP’s role in the coming years and provided recommendations to help shape the network’s strategic direction and action plan for the next three years.
VIOBA representatives actively engaged in the strategic discussions, sharing experiences from Viet Nam and contributing to key agenda items, including:
Strategic priority areas for ALAP during the 2026–2028 period
Strengthening regional cooperation and partnerships
Knowledge management, dissemination, and enhanced communications
Developing a concrete roadmap for upcoming activities.
Within the ALAP network, VIOBA currently serves as Chair of the Partnership Development Committee and Head of the Community-Based Development Models Working Group, contributing to strengthened connections among organisations across the region and promoting the sharing and scaling up of community-based models that respond to population ageing.
In the coming period, ALAP is expected to focus on advancing regional collaborative initiatives on population health, gender and ageing, and climate change adaptation, while also strengthening research, knowledge sharing, and capacity building for agencies, organisations, businesses, and individuals working in this field.
Importantly, the meeting also consolidated perspectives and recommendations from member organisations regarding the challenges and needs of older women, with the aim of bringing the voices of the Asia–Pacific region to global platforms. Following the strategic meeting, ALAP representatives are expected to participate in the 70th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, taking place from 9–19 March 2026, to present regional insights and advocate for greater recognition and empowerment of older women within global gender equality agendas.
VIOBA’s participation reaffirms the organisation’s commitment to contributing to regional collaboration and promoting innovative solutions to address population ageing, while advancing the vision of longer, healthier lives across the Asia–Pacific region.
