On May 7\u20138, 2026, the 2nd Regional Ministerial Conference on Demographic Resilience<\/a> was prominently held in Skopje, North Macedonia. This prestigious international event once again underscored the global recognition and effectiveness of Vietnam's community-based solutions for an ageing population.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeking Human-Centred Solutions for Demographic Shifts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Co-organised by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Government of North Macedonia, this year\u2019s conference focused on a highly critical theme: \u201cShaping Change: Human-Centred Solutions for Demographic Resilience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference was honoured by the attendance and opening remarks of the President and Prime Minister of North Macedonia. It gathered numerous ministers, high-level policymakers, leading experts, and international organisations to discuss and address the pressing challenges of population ageing and demographic shifts across Europe, Central Asia, and the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vietnam\u2019s Innovation Takes Center Stage<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

During the key thematic session titled \u201cPolicy Reforms to Adapt to Demographic Change: Global Lessons Learned,\u201d<\/em>the delegation from Vietnam drew significant interest from international delegates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Chu Viet Nga \u2013 Program Manager of HelpAge International in Vietnam \u2013 delivered an insightful presentation highlighting the practical success of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club (ISHC) model. The ISHC is highly regarded as a comprehensive, sustainable, and community-led solution that actively addresses rapid population ageing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    As many nations struggle with the soaring fiscal burdens of social security systems amid ageing demographics, Vietnam's ISHC model stood out as an exemplary solution. The conference recognised the model for being highly sustainable, cost-effective, and scalable. It serves as a vital tool to enhance demographic resilience and strengthen social cohesion at the grassroots level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The 2nd Regional Ministerial Conference provided a valuable platform for countries to exchange knowledge and experiences regarding integrated policy approaches to population and development. Ultimately, it reaffirmed the shared global commitment to ensuring social inclusion, equality, and an improved quality of life for all generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
